Consortium

The EEnvest Consortium represents a multi-disciplinary group composed of 9 partners representing 5 EU countries, including research institutions, consulting companies, technical developers and organizations involved with the civil society, which stands for an ideal platform to carry out the work proposed.

EURAC

Eurac Research is a private research centre based in Bozen, Italy. Our researchers come from a wide variety of scientific fields and from all parts of the globe. Together they dedicate themselves to their profession and vocation – shaping the future.

The Institute for Renewable Energy conducts applied research on advanced energy systems, based on or including sustainable energy sources. Its activities include national and international research projects, promotion of renewable energy technologies and scientific consultancy to political decision-makers. The Institute’s research involves the extensive use of dynamic simulations and multiphysics modelling of advanced energy systems and buildings, as well as technical and product development. Scientific results are based on laboratory tests of single components and integrated energy systems, as well as the monitoring of applied demonstration sites, experimental outdoor installations and residential buildings.

Role in the project:

EURAC is responsible for the overall scientific and administrative management of the project activities. EURAC is in charge of defining technical risk typologies, together with associating related mitigation measures and making recommendations for risk limitation and mitigation in the form of guidelines. This activity is closely related to EURAC´s expertise in the field of building energy efficiency, commercial buildings renovation and life cycle cost approach. Eurac is also involved in both the setting up and coordinating the work of the local demo-working group for the demo-case building but also in the tasks related to the dialogue with the scientific community and in the communication within the stakeholder community.

Role in the project: R2M has the role of Innovation Manager of EEnvest, overseeing communication, dissemination and exploitation activities.

GNE FINANCE

GNE Finance is a high impact investment company focused on providing financing for the built environment. GNE Finance is a leader in leveraging finance to deliver innovative solutions that maximize social and environmental impact while delivering sustainable returns to capital providers. GNE Finance supports homeowners throughout the renovation process and offers affordable and customized financing for energy efficiency, renewable energy, water conservation, safety and accessibility improvements in homes and buildings.

GNE Finance is working with institutional partners: European Commission, the World Bank and Climate-KIC. All GNE’s projects are directly focused on developing scalable solutions for the real estate sector by leveraging private financing and public sector engagement.

Role in the project: GNE is developing a framework to evaluate the impact of both energy and non-energy related benefits on asset value, and the corresponding business case after renovation. Specifically, GNE focuses on the validation of the financial risk evaluation model. GNE will also contribute in other tasks of the project, leveraging on its proved expertise in providing financing solutions for investments in the building renovation sector.

POLIMI

Established in 1863, Politecnico di Milano is the largest school in Engineering, Architecture and Industrial Design in Italy. It is organized in 12 departments and in a network of 6 Schools of Engineering, Architecture and Industrial Design. The schools take care of education, whereas the departments are devoted to research. The project’s activities are carried out by a multidisciplinary team of researchers covering competences in the field of ICT technology, engineering and architectural design, building technologies, energy efficiency and assessment methodologies. Since the Horizon 2020 program has started, Politecnico di Milano received a founding for 310 projects: 80 as Coordinator, 223 as Partner, 7 as Third Parties.

 Role in the project: Politecnico di Milano (PolimI) will support the consortium analyzing the technical risks associated with the investments during the building’s energy renovation strategies. Polimi will also contribute in defining the methodology for data structuring within the EENVEST Platform.

SINLOC

SINLOC was founded in 1981 in Padua (IT) and is an Italian leading company in the market for local development initiatives. It operates both as economic, procedural and financial advisor, as well as equity investor in PPP initiatives with a particular emphasis on social, economic and financial sustainability of projects. SINLOC is owned by ten of the most important Italian banking foundations and it has minority and majority shareholdings in special purpose vehicles, regional development banks, asset management companies and engineering companies focused on local development. In particular, SINLOC carries out two main types of activities. On one hand, it works as strategic, economic and financial advisor, offering support to the decision-making process of local administrations, institutions, banking foundations and private companies. On the other, it works as a management company and/or a technical advisor of investment vehicles and provides activities such as investment strategy definition, project scouting, investment structuring, financial closing and monitoring.

 Role in the project: Sinloc is the leader of WP3 regarding the development of the financial risk evaluation model. In coordination with the technical risk activities carried out by EURAC in WP2, Sinloc will mainly define the parameters of correlation between technical and financial risks as well as the setting up of the financial evaluation model. Sinloc will also contribute to the development of the investment evaluation model in WP4 and the development of the demo-case in WP6.

UIPI

The International Union of Property Owners (UIPI) is a pan-European non-profit association (ASBL under Belgium Law) comprising of 30 organisations from 28 countries. Jointly, they represent more than 5 million private property owners of some 20 to 25 million dwellings all over Europe. Founded in 1923, UIPI aims to protect and promote the interests, needs and concerns of private landlords and owner-occupiers at national, European and international levels. UIPI is partner of the URBAN European Parliament Intergroup and the Build Up Platform of the European Commission. UIPI is a member, and since June 2014, the co-chair of the European Housing Forum.

Role in the project: UIPI will bring in the consortium property owners’ perspective and assist on the replication of the EEnvest platform to the residential sector. UIPI will be actively involved in dissemination and communication activities utilizing its network at EU level.

ENERGINVEST

Energinvest is a strategic, financial and operational consulting firm specialized in the development and implementation of public and/or private initiatives to scale up investments in energy transition, in particular sustainable and large-scale energy efficiency investment programs.  Energinvest offers extensive expertise of third-party financing mechanisms, energy performance contracting (EPC), energy public-private partnerships (EPPP) and public-private third-party investment (TPI) social models in the Energy Efficiency sector. Energinvest is a founding member and President of BELESCO, the Belgian ESCO association.  Energinvest was an expert in the EESI project (European Energy Services Initiative, under the Intelligent Energy Europe program) and is a member of the group of experts of the DSMIV Task 16 of the International Energy Agency on “Innovative energy services”.

Role in the project: Energinvest contributes in the research work on existing risk evaluation frameworks and will be testing and validating the financial risk models developed within EEnvest. In cooperation with GNE Energinvest will work on the valuation methodology of non-energy related benefits and their possible inclusion in the business case. It will also perform a technical/financial due diligence on the demo-case building, it will elaborate the investment evaluation related to the envisaged renovation measures and it will analyse the suitability of procurement options for the specific demo-case.

ECROWD!

Ecrowd! is a crowdlending platform for positive impact investment projects, which includes energy efficiency projects, and was established in 2013. Crowdlending is crowdfunding for loans, where private entities (companies, municipalitie, associations) request a loan not to a bank, but to a pool of retail investors through Ecrowd!’s platform. Ecrowd! function is to capture the project, analyze it’s viability, market the project, and manage the loan. So far it has financed more than 5M€ in private positive impact investments.

Role in the project: Ecrowd! is very interested in the project since doing due diligence on energy efficiency projects is an important part of analyzing a projects viability and decision to publish. By streamlining energy efficiency, more projects will probably be eligible for financing, due diligence will be faster and easier and projects will flow faster through the whole process. Ecrowd!’s task in the project is to bring practical experience in project due diligence and financing of energy efficiency projects.

Role in the project: IES is leading the development and testing of the investment evaluation platform, including the design of the platform architecture, the implementation of a structured, interoperable and well organized knowledge base, as well as the integration of a strategy for validated and secure information exchange based on distributed ledger technology. Additionally, IES is responsible for the design of the multilingual graphical user interface of the platform, to ensure it is reliable, comprehensive and easy to use.
